Nichelle Nichols, best known for her role as Lt. Uhura in the original Star Trek series. Thanks to SHOUT! Factory, February will see the release of a new documentary that explores the real-life impact the actress had on NASA. The film is titled Woman in Motion: Nichelle Nichols, Star Trek and the Remaking of NASA and you can check out a trailer for it below.

Woman in Motion: Nichelle Nichols, Star Trek and the Remaking of NASA will explore Nichols’ journey in getting NASA to hire more Black, Asian and Latino astronauts for the agency. Directed by  Todd Thompson (The Highwaymen), Woman in Motion also features appearances from several celebrities and scientists including Nichols’ fellow Star Trek cast members George Takei and Walter Koenig.

Nichelle Nichols’ daunting task to launch a national blitz for NASA, recruiting 8,000 of the nation’s best and brightest, including the trailblazing astronauts who became the first African American, Asian and Latino men and women to fly in space.

Woman in Motion: Nichelle Nichols, Star Trek and the Remaking of NASA is distributed by SHOUT! Factory, which has been responsible for distributing other genre franchises such as Power Rangers and Ultraman. The Apple edition of the film will come with bonus features including deleted scenes and a “The Story Behind the Story” featurette.

Woman in Motion: Nichelle Nichols, Star Trek and the Remaking of NASA will be available to purchase digitally and on-demand on February 16th, 2021. It will also hit select theaters on February 6th.
