The CW has given us the first trailer for yet another DC Comics adaption – Black Lightning. It’s the Era of DC TV, ya’ll!
The first trailer shows us that mixing family with trying to be a superhero can be tough. For those of you wondering, Black Lightning at this time will not be part of the CW‘s Arrowverse. CW president Mark Pedowitz confirmed this little tidbit over at EW.
Synopsis: Jefferson Pierce has made his choice. He hung up the suit and his secret identity years ago, but with a daughter hell-bent on justice and a star student being recruited by a local gang, he’ll be pulled back into the fight as the wanted vigilante and DC legend: Black Lightning.
The character originally debuted in the comic book Black Lightning #1 in April of 1977, and was created by writer Tony Isabella with artist Trevor Von Eeden. He was one of the first major African American superheroes to appear in DC Comics.
The series will star Cress Williams as Jefferson Pierce aka Black Lightning. The series also stars Christine Adams, China Anne McClain, and Nafessa Williams.
No specific premiere date has been set yet for Black Lightning, but it is expected to debut midseason.
