Arcturus and DMG Entertainment have taken Brandon Sanderson’s best-selling epic fantasy novel The Way of Kings and turned it into a VR experience. Check out a trailer and the full press release about it below.
It was a while ago when it was announced that DMG had bought the rights to Sanderson’s entire Cosmere universe. Many of us have been waiting patiently to see what would transpire from that deal. We are still waiting patiently for that movie.
The Way of Kings, Escape the Shattered Plains will be made available on Steam starting March 2nd, 2018. We will be giving it a test run at Emerald City Comic Con where it will be available for demo. Arcturus, in partnership with DMG Entertainment, announced that The Way of Kings, Escape the Shattered Plains virtual reality (VR) experience will be released worldwide on Viveport and Steam for HTC Vive on March 2. Escape the Shattered Plains is an immersive and interactive narrative experience and the first visual adaptation of Brandon Sanderson’s best-selling The Stormlight Archive series, which has sold more than 15 million copies. Fans will embark on an electrifying, unforgettable adventure in the Cosmere universe as they wield magic, dodge crashing landscapes and battle against perilous magical creatures for survival. “For the first time ever, audiences will be able to experience the thrills and see the magic of the fantasy universe Brandon Sanderson created before their very eyes,” said Ewan Johnson, Chief Creative Officer of Arcturus. In this short form adaption written by Joshua Rubin, the lead writer behind renowned videogames Destiny and Assassin’s Creed, participants take on the role of Kaladin, a young man who is coming to terms with his magical powers, and enter the realm of Roshar, a mythical land where storms of incredible power sweep through the perilous and rocky terrain. Guided by Syl, an enchanting, fairy-like creature, you will encounter an unrelenting tempest on the Shattered Plains, learn to harness the magical power of stormlight, and face-off with mystical beasts and sinister Parshendi warriors.
